Visit the world famous shipwreck cove & stunning blue caves situated in the north,the monasery in Anafonitria where Agios Dyonisios {st. Denis} stayed for a short time,see the monks quaters the main church & a small personal chapel used by st denis.
A very popular day trip is turtle spotting in the bay of Lagana on the south coast,a protected species there are 9 main nesting beaches which are maintained by volunteers during the summer months.
The main town Zante is a lively vibrant working town,the church of St Denis is very ornate & open to all,along the harbour front are the fishing boats & many super yachts visiting the island, in the evening they are all lit up making the busy harbour front along with all the bars ,restaurants,souvlaki grills a must go see.
During the day & evenings untill 9pm the shops are open ,Alexandra Roma is the main shopping street offering clothes shops,mobile phones,electronic equipmant,shoes,toys ,
St Marks square is at the far end & has several tavernas & bars also banks which have ATM's open 24hrs.
Solomos Square has the Byzantium museum covering 2 stories ,in the centre of the square is a statue of Dionysios Solomos a greek poet from Zakynthos ,one of his poems was set to music & became the national anthem.
